Deep Dale, just round the corner from Ashford-in-the-Water, has a fabulous display of limestone-loving wild flowers from April onwards, including Early Purple Orchids (pictured), Columbines, Rock-roses and Devil’s Bit Scabious. You can also find water cress growing in the crystal clear streams. The bottom of the Deep Dale Nature Reserve can be accessed from White Lodge car park just off the A6; alternatively, to walk the whole Dale, approach it from the fields near the top of Sheldon village then stroll back to Ashford through Monsal Dale. There is more info about this walk in the Catherine Cottage Visitors’ Pack.
